Who Can Be A Driving Instructor?
Becoming a Driving Instructor requires professionalism, organisational skills, and an ability to relate well to people. Whilst these qualities can be developed through training, they are essential characteristics for individuals pursuing a career in this field. Specific eligibility criteria must also be met, including being over 21 years old and holding a clean driver’s licence for at least three years. Eligibility can be confirmed through the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) or the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) in Northern Ireland. Prospective instructors must undergo a new Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before applying, even if they have previously undertaken this process.
Why Choose A Career As A Driving Instructor?
Becoming a Driving Instructor comes with several benefits. Being your own boss is a significant perk that appeals to those who want to make key decisions, whilst managing their own time. This freedom positively influences work/life balance, enabling instructors to customise their hours and availability, according to their lifestyle. With dedication, the profession can also be financially rewarding without requiring exhaustive working hours. Engaging with a diverse range of individuals, especially students, is both challenging and fulfilling. Making a positive impact and imparting a valuable skill to students adds a meaningful purpose to the job.
Can My Driving Instructor Training Work Around My Existing Commitments?
Absolutely! We understand that everyone has their own unique schedule and commitments, so our training programme is designed to be flexible, accommodating your individual needs and availability. If you need to attend training on weekends, we can definitely arrange that for you. Just keep in mind that the DVSA tests usually take place during the week.
What If I Fail A Qualifying Test?
If you don’t pass any of the three qualifying tests, don’t worry! We’re here to help you succeed. It’s always a good idea to talk to us, who can assess your readiness for each test and provide the support you need. The part one test can be taken as many times as you need. For parts two and three, you’ll have three attempts each, but keep in mind that there are DVSA test fees for each attempt. If you don’t pass on your third attempt, you’ll need to wait for two years before you’re eligible to retake any exams. Don’t let that discourage you, though – we’re here to help and support you on your journey!
